- The Fun Side of Life brings me to Halifax Harbour and an unforgettable tour of the city from the water. Then I'm sitting down for a meal to remember from one of Sydney's great chefs. All day I could eat this. Join me on my cross-Canada RV tour as I discover the Fun Side of Life. I spent the morning roaming the east coast of Cape Breton; taking in the sights and sounds of Atlantic Canada, but I wasn't roaming aimlessly. I was slowly heading towards Halifax, Downtown Halifax to be exact. I had an appointment to cruise the harbor with Sea Halifax Tours. My captain for the day was Bader Bassett. And before we hit the water, he was sure to to go through all the safety protocols to make sure our trip was as safe as it was fun. I'm so glad I have hair to enjoy this. What experience do you hope people take away with them after they ride with you? - A lot of people don't ever see it from the water, don't ever see the city from the water, and they're like, "Oh my god, we didn't know Halifax was this beautiful." And a lot of people don't ever get the experience to see the islands, like for example, Georges Island right here. - [Jim] Are you from Halifax? - So I'm originally Egyptian. I moved here about nine years ago to go to school here, and it's a beautiful city here, honestly. There's always something happening here, and it's a growing city so it's like every year you're here, you see something new being built. It's not the same city that I moved to nine years ago. - Is this a top-five experience anyone should have in Halifax? - Oh, a 100%, a 100%. - 200%! - 200%, honestly. Yeah, so if you look in there, there's a submarine right there. - [Jim] Right there, man. Bader, is this heaven? - Honestly, it's the best job I could have. - That's awesome. - I'd rather be doing this than anything else. - Of course, yeah. I don't blame you. This isn't a slow boat. - [Bader] This boat is a jet boat, so it drives a little bit different. It does go a lot faster than most other boats. - There's nothing wrong with catamarans, but this is a rocket ship. - Oh, yeah, a 100%. This is way more fun. This is where it's at. - Bader, this was great. Thank you so much for the tour. I'm looking forward to getting back into this rocket mode. - We'll let you drive this time. - Oh! Are you sure? - Yeah. - All right. - [Bader] You wanna drive? - What's that? - [Bader] You wanna drive? - I don't mind. - [Bader] Let's do it. - Yeah? All right. All right. - Perfect. So if you want, like, try going a little bit to the right. - Yeah. - You can give it more, that's fine. - Yeah. Yeah! Whoo! - Yeah, it's fun isn't it? - Oh, man. I'm moving here! Every single muscle in my body is tight right now. My tour of Halifax Harbour with Bader will stick with me forever. But after that adventure, I had a long drive ahead of me so I had to head out. I was going to Sydney for a special meal from a renowned chef. On the bay in North Sydney, there's a restaurant hidden where you wouldn't expect. Between the ferry terminal and some warehouses is the the Lobster Pound and Moore. It's got a great reputation for East Coast cuisine, and chef Richie Moore sat down with me to snack on an appetizer and chat. - Why I became a chef is because I always wanted to; I could always cook. I kind of had high metabolism. Yeah, I plan on dying at the stove, and I will cater my own funeral so that's my attitude towards cooking. - What kind of experience can people expect to have here? And what kind of experience do you want them to take with them? - Oh, take away a little box of food, 'cause I give large portions. So hopefully everyone gets full, but we're more of an intimate adult date place. We're where you go for your anniversary or birthday. Our food is a little bit higher end. Our motto here is food made with love for those who love food. - Finish this sentence for me, okay? Your perfect meal is? - To me, the ideal meal for me is to give someone an experience they've never had before that makes the guest happy and puts a smile on their face when they're walking out the door. - [Jim] Chef Richie wanted to make sure I had the same experience as all his customers, so he prepared me one of his signature meals and proceeded to blow my mind. - [Richie] So Jim. - [Jim] Holy. Whoa. - [Richie] Here we have local halibut cheek, okay? Very rare; you don't usually see these end up in the grocery store. A tomato-cucumber salad. Tomatoes are grown in my greenhouse. - Oh, wow. - Local julienne vegetable medley. Pan seared. Little bit of butter, salt and pepper. Basmati rice, fluffy, with a little bit of turmeric for color, and on the side, a little chili-pineapple butter sauce. - Beautiful. - Enjoy. - I can't wait to dig in. This looks amazing. - So good! All day I could eat this. The food, the people, the endless scenery, Nova Scotia is genuinely one of my favorite places in the world. Yesterday had it all: food, scenery and a cool ride. But I never stay in one place for too long. I'm getting back on the road. See you again soon.
